Today's Rant.

Last night, the President pre-empted Monday night sweeps TV to address the issue of illegal immigration. I am going to post a link to view the text of the speech...http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/05/15/D8HKHJG80.html. Please take a look at it. The President said he supports comprehensive immigration reform that would accomplish 5 clear objectives:

First, the US must secure its borders. This is the basic responisibility of a sovereign nation. I'm glad to see that now Bush cares about national sovereignty now, when it benefits him. His solution is to increase technology and to put the National Guard on our borders. Even though we only have about 12,000 Border Agents now, they have apprehended and sent home about 6 million illegals. I don't see how putting troops on the border does not militarize the southern border. I don't see how we can rationally believe that after one year, when the Guard is reduced, that we can stop the millions of illegals coming over with just 6,000 new border agents.

Second, we will establish a temporary worker program. I wonder how we will get all the illegals who apply for the program to submit to the criminal background checks and when their stint here is up, how we will get them to leave. There is no way we can police that. That's not even rational.

Third, holding employers accountable for the workers they hire. The solution: A new ID card for every legal foreign worker. That is unenforceable. I don't see how we can check all these employers, many of whom just find different illegals every day to do various jobs. I see this as the precursor to the national ID card. Mark my words, they will morph that into the National ID card program for all Americans.

Fourth, we need to find a middle ground that is not amnesty and not direct deportation. Illegals who have roots in our country should have to pay a meaningful penalty for breaking the law (whatever that is), to pay their taxes (which is so insane i can hardly comment on it. How are they going to pay taxes when they all get paid in cash. Are these employers going to submit to payroll systems, fill out W-2 forms, etc. This is laughable that they think they could force these people to pay their taxes. I wish they could do it, but its impossible), and to learn English and to work in a job for a number of years. How can me make illegals learn English when we don't even have English as our official language. We can't be serious about helping Illegals achieve the American Dream and ask them to learn English when we don't require all of our citizens to know English.

Fifth, Bush wants to maintain the melting pot of our culture by urging English to help assimilation. I've already talked about that.

I believe we won't get any real immigration reform to come out of the US Senate. Just today, they killed a proposal to address border security first in their reform package. The Senate doesn't want to deal with this because you have several Senators who are running for President and they are too Chicken S--- to make any real reforms. I think the US House will kill the Senate proposal, at least i hope. Any bill that doesn't address border security, building a fence, etc. is a bad proposal.

I'm going to post a couple of horoscopes today. This has been requested by one of my few readers. As always, horoscopes are courtesy of the Onion.

Libra September 23 - October 23
You will ignore the voice of reason once again this week, but that's largely because it's gone hoarse and grown nearly inaudible over the years.

Scorpio October 24 - November 21
While others have overlooked the brilliance of your fanfiction, they won't be able to ignore the upcoming 60 Minutes/60 Minutes II crossover you have planned.

Sagittarius November 22 - December 21
A long nature hike through the peaks and valleys of a national park's black-bear preserve will drastically enhance your appreciation of urban centers this week.

Tonight, we see the final Three on American Idol. I want Elliot to win, but i predict a Katherine win. Tune in tonight at 8pm.

More tomorrow...

I have been a little harsh in how i have addressed the Senate and i should have been more respectful. Someday, if I make it to the Senate, i hope someone shows me the respect that i need to show them now.
