1667 - John Milton, blind and impoverished, sells the copyright of Paradise Lost for 10 pounds.

1773 - British Parliament passes the Tea Act, designed to save British East India Co. by granting it a monopoly on North American tea trade.

1813 - War of 1812: US Troops capture capital of Ontario, York (present day Toronto, Ontario).
I'm glad we gave it back to them. We don't want that.

1861 - War Criminal Abraham Lincoln suspends writ of habeas corpus, allowing for the unlawful imprisonment of congressmen and other people who oppossed His Tyrannical policies.

1911 - Following resignation and death of William P. Frye, a compromise is reached to rotate the office of President pro-tempore of the U.S. Senate.

1974 - 10,000 people march in Washington DC calling for impeachment of President Nixon.

1981 - Xerox introduces the computer mouse.

2006 - Construction begins on Freedom Towers for new WTC in NYC.

Today is the birthday of Gen. Ulysses S. Grant. Not that anyone cares, but i thought i'd throw it out there.
